WILKE TE BRUMMELSTROETE
MEZZO-SOPRANO The Dutch mezzo Wilke te Brummelstroete performs an eclectic repertoire that ranges from Baroque works through the classical and romantic periods up to contemporary repertoire. She made her debut at the Bayreuth Festival in 2006 as Siegrune Die Walküre conducted Christian Thielemann, returning in 2007, 2008 and 2009. She repeats her performance this year and will also sing this role with Maestro Thielemann in the 2012 / 2013 Baden-Baden Cycles of Der Ring des Nibelungen. She has also enjoyed particularly close collaborations with Frans Brüggen and his Orchestra of the 18th Century, often as a soloist in the Bach Passions, in Mozart’s Requiem, in arias by Haydn and in Beethoven Symphony No. 9; with Sir John Eliot Gardiner, whether in Bach Cantatas or Beethoven Symphony No. 9; and with Nicholas McGegan, both at the Göttingen Festival and with Philharmonia Baroque. Other conductors with whom she has enjoyed collaborations include Richard Egarr, Daniel Harding, Iván Fischer, Paul Goodwin, Ton Koopman, Kent Nagano, Sir Roger Norrington, Christian Thielemann and Thomas Zehetmair. She works regularly with the Academy of Ancient Music, the Bavarian Radio Orchestra, the English Baroque Soloists, the Irish Chamber Orchestra, the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra, the Northern Sinfonia, the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, the Orchestre de Paris, the Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra (San Francisco), the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, and has appeared at major concert halls including London’s Barbican Hall, Royal Albert Hall (at the 2005 BBC Proms), Queen Elizabeth Hall and Wigmore Hall; the Sage Gateshead; the Palau della Musica, Barcelona; the Teatro Colòn, Buenos Aires; the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées and Salle Pleyel, Paris; the Wiener Konzerthaus and the Wiener Musikverein; as well as at the Beijing Music Festival, the Hong Kong Arts Festival and the Istanbul Festival. Her operatic engagements have included Venere / Bellezza in Cavalli's Ercole Amante (Netherlands Opera, a performance now available on DVD, with Ivor Bolton); Aristeo in Graun’s Orfeo (Berlin); Ruggiero Alcina and Teseo Arianna in Creta (Händel-Festspiele Göttingen), Tirinto Imeneo (Opera Ireland), Storgé Jephtha (Händel-Festspiele Göttingen and San Francisco), Juno / Ino Semele (San Francisco); Ottavia L'incoronazione di Poppea (Massachusetts Festival), Proserpina L’Orfeo (Amsterdam), Minerva / Melanto Il Ritorno d'Ulisse (Amsterdam, Berlin, Brussels, Vienna, Zürich and Sydney Festival), Penelopé Il Ritorno d'Ulisse (Wiesbaden); Purcell’s Dido (Brussels, Antwerp, London, Lybia, China) and Tamerlano in Vivaldi's Bajazet (Vienna with Fabio Biondi). Recordings include J. S. Bach Cantatas with Sir John Eliot Gardiner, a disc that won Gramophone Record of the Year Award and the Baroque Vocal Award in 2005; St Matthew Passion and Mozart Requiem with Frans Brüggen; Duruflé Requiem with Het Brabants Kamerkoor; Arianna in Creta and Jephtha with Nicholas McGegan; and Die Walküre from the Bayreuth Festival. Her versatility has afforded her success in performances of romantic repertoire such as Berlioz Les Nuits d’Été, Elgar The Kingdom, Respighi Il tramonto, Schumann Das Paradies und die Peri and Verdi Requiem, as well as the World Première performance of the opera Protesilaos en Laodamia by Rudolph Escher. Recent and current engagements include the Christmas Oratorio with the Real Filharmonia de Galicia, the St Matthew Passion with Het Brabants Orkest conducted by Paul Goodwin; Beethoven Symphony No. 9 with the London Symphony Orchestra conducted by Sir John Eliot Gardiner (London, Madrid, Paris), with Frans Brüggen and the Orchestra of the 18th Century (Japan) and with Jan Willem de Vriend and the Orkest van het Oosten (CD recording and Concertgebouw); Haydn Nelson Mass with Frans Brüggen and the Orchestra of Radio France; a European tour of Haydn Arias with Frans Brüggen and the Orchestra of the 18th Century and Schumann Des Sängers Fluch with the Residentie Orkest conducted by Neeme Järvi.
