Rupert Enticknap Countertenor

Winner of a Special Prize at the Second International Singing Competition for Baroque Opera Pietro Antonio Cesti, Rupert Enticknap was a chorister at Magdalen College, Oxford, and held choral scholarships at Wells Cathedral and King’s College, London, where he gained a First Class Degree in Music. Studying as the David Laing Scholar with Russell Smythe at the Royal College of Music, he was awarded a distinction in his Masters Degree.

He sang Unulfo in the London Handel Festival’s 2011 production of Rodelinda, and other operatic engagements have included Isaac in Abraham and Isaac at the Grimeborn Festival, Arasse in Hasse’s Il Siroe and Apollo in Vinci’s Il medo with Ensemble Serse and Spirit Dido and Aeneas at the Concertgebouw with Collegium Vocale Gent alongside Sarah Connolly and Christopher Maltman. His broadcasts include In Tune for BBC Radio 3.

A Prize Winner at the Kammeroper Schloss Rheinsberg International Singing Competition, Rupert Enticknap sang Ottone L’Incoronazione di Poppea in the 2011 Summer Festival production in Berlin, and in Autumn 2011 sang in Buxtehude’s Membra Jesu Nostri for English Touring Opera. In 2012, he gives a recital in the Festival “Resonanzen” at the Wiener Konzerthaus, and sings the title role of Riccardo Primo at the London Handel Festival, Ottone L’Incoronazione di Poppea at the 2012 Innsbruck Early Music Festival, Human Fragility Il ritorno d’Ulisse at the Theater an der Wien, the St Matthew Passion in Exeter and Winchester Cathedrals and Come Ye Sons of Art and Vivaldi Stabat Mater with the Ten Tors Orchestra. He will also appear in SUM for ROH2 at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden.

Rupert Enticknap is supported by the Josephine Baker Trust, the Spencer Wills Trust, the Sarum St Michael Foundation and Powdes’s Trust. During 2011 / 2012, he continues his studies at the Royal College of Music’s International Opera School
