Sharon Carty Mezzo-soprano

Winner of the RTÉ Lyric fM Classical Breakthrough Music Bursary and a native of Celbridge, Co. Kildare, mezzo-soprano Sharon Carty studied at the Royal Irish Academy of Music and the Opera School of the University of Music and Performing Arts and made her stage debut as Maddalena Rigoletto at the Anna Livia International Opera Festival.

She made her Austrian debut as Hänsel Hänsel und Gretel at the Reinsberg Festival and sang Ruggiero Alcina at the BOV Opera Festival, Malta, before joining the Opera Studio of the Frankfurt Opera in September 2010.

She made her debut there as Tebaldo Don Carlo and has since sung Cleone Medée, Second Lady Die Zauberflöte and The Woman Barabbas Dialogues.

Equally at home on the concert platform, Sharon Carty has performed regularly with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra as well as Capella Istrapolitana, Capella Leopoldina, the European Union Chamber Orchestra and the Wiener Akademie. Her recordings include Orfeo Britannica with VUENV Consort.

This season, she returns to Frankfurt to sing Aloès L’Étoile, Bastien Bastien und Bastienne and Flora Bervoix La traviata and makes her debut with Lyric Opera, Dublin, as Suzuki Madama Butterfly.
