TENOR

Born in Wolverhampton, Sean Clayton began his training at the Birmingham Conservatoire and graduated from the RCM, where he was a Van Beugel Scholar. Operatic engagements have included Elder Gleaton Susannah and Don Eusebio L’occasione fa il ladro for Wexford Festival Opera, Toby The Medium and Rupert Burns The Impresario for Second Movement, Brother Orfeo and Sailor Dido and Aeneas for English Touring Opera, Pastore L’Orfeo for the English Bach Festival Trust, Fenton The Merry Wives of Windsor for Opera South, Monsieur Prospect Not in Front of the Waiter at the Jubilee Hall, Aldeburgh, Aurelius King Arthur with Der Lautten Kompagney, Berlin, (performances in Bad Kissingen, Bad Reichenhall, Bad Lauchstädt, the Hanover Herrenhausen, the Musikfestpiel Potsdam Sanssouci and Santiago de Compostela), Giocondo La pietra del paragone and Fenton Falstaff for Stanley Hall Opera, Belfiore Il viaggio a Reims at the Wexford Festival Scenes and Nanki-Poo The Mikado for Surrey Opera.

Concert highlights have included the St John Passion and Mozart Requiem at Symphony Hall, Birmingham, the St John Passion with the Irish Baroque Orchestra and the Milton Keynes Chamber Orchestra, the St Matthew Passion and Messiah at the Royal Concert Hall, Nottingham, the St Matthew Passion with the Apollo Chamber Orchestra, Beethoven Mass in C with the London Mozart Players at the Exeter Festival, Britten Spring Symphony at the Southampton Guildhall, St Nicolas in Exeter and Ripon Cathedrals, Messiah for the World Festival Choir and the Gåvle Symphony Orchestra, with the English Chamber Orchestra and at the Fairfield Halls, Croydon, the Nelson Mass for Concerts from Scratch in Seville, Mozart Requiem at Philharmonic Hall, Liverpool, and St Martin-in-the-Fields, Carmina Burana with the Young Janacek Philharmonic in Bologna and Forli, The Fairy Queen for the Armonico Consort, The Crucifixion in Bath Abbey and Vaughan Williams Serenade to Music for the Concordia Foundation at the Queen Elizabeth Hall. His broadcasts include the St John Passion and Susanna for RTÉ Lyric fM and The Lighthouse for RAI.

Sean’s recent and current engagements include Little Bat Susannah for English Touring Opera, further performances as Aurelius King Arthur with Der Lautten Kompagney, Berlin, Second Brother The Seven Deadly Sins with Ute Lemper in Palermo, Rossini Petite Messe Solennelle in Rome and Schutz Musikalische Exequien for the Monteverdi Choir. He has also been selected by William Christie for The Fairy Queen at the Aix-en-Provence Festival Académie 2008 and for Le Jardin des Voix in 2009.
