CAROLYN DOBBIN

MEZZO-SOPRANO

Irish mezzo-soprano Carolyn Dobbin trained at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama and on the Young Artist Programme of OTC, Dublin.

Operatic engagements have included Chloe / All That Money Can Buy for The Opera Group, Alisa / Lucia di Lammermoor and Maddalena / Rigoletto for Castleward Opera, Alisa / Lucia di Lammermoor (Cover) and Orlofsky / Die Fledermaus (Cover) for Scottish Opera, Miss Catchall / Vera of Las Vegas for OTC, Dublin, Lisetta / Il mondo della luna for Opera Della Luna, Dorabella / Così fan tutte for the Samling Foundation / BBC Radio 3, Second Lady / The Magic Flute for Opera Holland Park, First Witch / Dido and Aeneas at the Barbican Hall, Concepcion / L’heure espagnole and Zulma / L’Italiana in Algeri for Opera Project, Malcolm / La donna del lago (Cover) for Garsington Opera and Bridesmaid / Der Freischütz at the Edinburgh Festival.

Conductors with whom she has worked include Stephen Barlow, Nicholas Cleobury, Christian Curnyn, Richard Egarr, Jane Glover, Simon Ible, Stephen Kovachevich, Sir Charles Mackerras, Sir David Willcocks and Thomas Zehetmair including appearances with the Guildford Philharmonic Orchestra, the Northern Sinfonia, the OAE, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, the Ten Tors Chamber Orchestra and the Ulster Orchestra. Her recordings include Lynne Plowman’s Cries Like Silence with the London Mozart Players on Avie.

Selected by Sir Davis Willcocks for Messiah at the Royal Albert Hall, she sings regularly in concert, and her current engagements include the title role in Carmen (Cover) for Raymond Gubbay Ltd, Dorabella / Così fan tutte for Clonter Opera, Nicklaus / The Tales of Hoffmann for Mid Wales Opera, Beethoven Choral Symphony and Haydn Nelson Mass with the Oxford Philomusica, Beethoven Mass in C for the Ulster Orchestra and Il tramonto with the Scottish Philharmonic Orchestra.
