JAMES EDWARDS
TENOR James Edwards began singing as a chorister at St Paul’s Cathedral continuing his studies at the Royal Northern College of Music and the Royal Academy of Music. He made his Royal Opera, Covent Garden debut as an Apprentice Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg in 2002 later joining the Young Artists Programme. Whilst there James sang roles including Pong Turandot, Albazar Il turco in Italia and Roderigo Otello. For the Royal Opera, he also covered Ernesto Don Pasquale, Arturo Lucia di Lammermoor and Cassio Otello and Ernesto Don Pasquale. Other roles have included the title role in Albert Herring at the Salzburg Landestheater, Novice Billy Budd and First Commissioner The Carmelites for English National Opera Push by David Bruce for Tête à Tête, Pinkerton Madam Butterfly for Raymond Gubbay Ltd at the Royal Albert Hall and Lensky Eugene Onegin for opera by definition. On the concert platform he made his BBC Proms debut in 2006, and other engagements have included the Mozart Requiem with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, Szymanowski Love Songs of Hafiz with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, Proms in the Park with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and an Opera Gala with the orchestra of Welsh National Opera. With regional choral societies, he has appeared in repertoire including The Dream of Gerontius, Carmina Burana and the Verdi Requiem. Current engagements include Rodolfo La bohème for the Blackheath Opera Project, Hoffmann The Tales of Hoffmann for Mid Wales Opera, Pirelli Sweeney Todd at the Gothenburg Opera, Alfred Die Fledermaus for Riverside Opera, First Brother The Seven Deadly Sins for the Royal Ballet, Viennese Galas with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Last Night of the Spring Proms for Raymond Gubbay Ltd and The Battle Proms 2008 at Althorp Park. www.thetenor.co.uk Please note that this biography is not to be used for programmes.
