AMANDA FORBES
SOPRANO Soprano Amanda Forbes has recently completed studies at the National Opera Studio in London supported by Welsh National Opera. She holds a BMus with first class honours in performance from the University of Melbourne, Australia and was awarded a DipRAM after completing the Royal Academy Opera course in June 2006. Her major awards include winner of the 2003 Australian National Operatic Aria Competition, recipient of the 2003 Joan Sutherland Society of Sydney Vocal Scholarship, and winner of the 2005 Richard Lewis/ Jean Shanks Award from the Royal Academy of Music. In 2006, she was a finalist and prize winner in the Royal Overseas League Arts Competition, and semi finalist in the Kathleen Ferrier Competition. She has worked in public master classes with Elly Ameling, Joyce DiDonato, Dame Anne Evans and Jonathan Summers, and attended the 2005 George Solti Accademia di Bel Cantoin Italy working with Dame Kiri Te Kanawa. At the RAM, her roles included Sandrina La finta giardiniera, La Fée Cendrillon, Queen of the Night, The Magic Flute and Soprano Actress A Night at the Chinese Opera. She was a member of the 2006 Glyndebourne Festival Opera Chorus, and her professional engagements have included Pamina The Magic Flute for Opera del Mar, as well as covering Casilda The Gondoliers and Marsinah Kismet for English National Opera, Adele Die Fledermaus for Scottish Opera Go Round and Zdenka Arabella for Garsington Opera. Recent engagements have included Carmina Burana for the Festival Chorus and covering Frasquita Carmen, Drusilla The Coronation of Poppea and Sophie Der Rosenkavalier for English National Opera, as well as Essential Scottish Opera and Clorinda Cinderella for Scottish Opera On Tour. Future engagements include Clorinda Cinderella for Scottish Opera at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and Gilda Rigoletto for Clonter Opera.
