BASS BARITONE

Born in Chisinau, Moldova, Roman Ialcic began his career as a member of the children’s choir “Sonor”. He studied conducting at the Academy of Music in Chisinau, where he also began his vocal studies with Professor Vladimir Dragos.

At this time, his roles included Konchak Prince Igor, Boris Boris Godunov, Gremin Eugene Onegin andFiesco Simon Boccanegra. He also sang Sarastro Die Zauberflöte at the Open Air Opera Festival in Isny and Abimelech Samson et Dalila at the St Gallen Festival.

He won a scholarship from the Moldovan Government to studies at the Richard Strauss Academy of Music with Nikolaus Hillebrand, and since 2001 he has studied with Gisela Aulmann.

He reached the final round of Plácido Domingo’s Operalia in 2006, and between September 2007 and July 2009 was engaged as a soloist at the St Gallen Theater, Switzerland, where his roles have included Escamillo Carmen, Cascada Die lustige Witwe, Lamoral Arabella, Tomski The Queen of Spades, Talbot Giovanna d’Arco, Marchese d’Obigny La traviata and Kaspar Der Freischütz.

Recent and current engagements include Varlaam Boris Godunov at the Stadttheater Klagenfurt and for the Städtische Bühnen Münster, Don Profondo Il viaggio a Reims at the Teatro Real, Madrid, Tomsky The Queen of Spades for Grange Park Opera, Doctor Macbeth at the Teatro Villamarta, Jerez de la Frontera and Kaspar Der Freischütz at the Opéra de Toulon and Opéra-Théâtre de St-Étienne.
