ADRIAN POWTER, BARITONE
Born in Cambridge, Adrian Powter studied at the RNCM. On graduating, Adrian Powter joined Glyndebourne Festival Opera where he sang the Naval Captain Manon Lescaut and in 2000 created Philip in Harrison Birtwistle’s The Last Supper at the Deutsche Staatsoper, Berlin, a production, which was later presented by Glyndebourne Festival and Touring Operas. Other roles have included The Abbott Curlew River for the Aldeburgh Foundation in Japan, Jupiter Peleus and Thetis and The Lion Pyramus and Thisbe for Opera Restor’d, The Forester The Cunning Little Vixen for Surrey Opera, Guglielmo Così fan tutte, Figaro Figaro’s Wedding and Baron Douphol La traviata for Opera Project, the title–role in Don Giovanni for London Opera Players, Figaro Figaro’s Wedding and Orsini Rienzi for Palace Opera, Dr Falke Die Fledermaus, Giuseppe The Gondoliers and Pish–Tush The Mikado for Carl Rosa Opera and Marullo Rigoletto for Mid–Wales Opera.
In concert, Adrian Powter has appeared throughout the UK as well as in Germany, Italy, The Netherlands, Portugal, and Singapore singing with the Academy of Music, the Apollo Chamber Orchestra, the Darmstadt Hofkapelle, the English Symphony Orchestra, the Hallé, the London Soloists’ Chamber Orchestra, the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra under conductors including William Boughton, David Chernaik, Edward Higginbottom, Libor Pešek and Kent Nagano. His broadcasts have included Friday Night is Music Night with Catherine Bott and the BBC Concert Orchestra for Radio 2 and Opera Works, a series of opera masterclasses with Jonathan Miller, for BBC 2.
Recent engagements have included Abbot Curlew River at the Opéra de Rouen, Peter Hansel and Gretel for Cork Opera Works, Guglielmo Così fan tutte, for Stowe Opera, Schaunard La bohème for Longborough Festival Opera, Dandini La cenerentola for Garden Opera, Brahms Requiem at the Music Hall, Aberdeen, and in Kilkenny Cathedral, The Apostles at the Chichester Festivities, Messiah at Cadogan Hall, Mahler Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen on tour with the Rambert Dance Company and with the London Soloists’ Chamber Orchestra at the Purcell Room and A Sea Symphony at the Fairfield Halls, Croydon.
